LifeWays Community Mental Health has provided behavioral health services to residents of Jackson and Hillsdale counties since 1966. We primarily serve county residents who have Medicaid, Healthy Michigan Plan, uninsured or under-insured who also have a diagnosed severe mental illness, intellectual/developmental disability, substance use disorder, or co-occurring disorders. A wide variety of behavioral health treatment options are available through our Provider Network of over 40 behavioral health providers located locally and throughout Michigan.

LifeWays has been awarded the highest level of accreditation by CARF International. CARF accreditation is a public seal of trust and commitment to quality based on internationally accepted standards. Achieving this accreditation demonstrates our commitment to exceptional, personalized care. An organization receiving the highest level of CARF accreditation has undergone a detailed peer review process and has demonstrated to a team of surveyors, during an on-site visit, its commitment to providing programs and services of the highest quality. Our accreditation includes:

  • Assessment and Referral:  Mental Health (Adults, Adolescents, and Children)
  • Case Management/Supports Coordination:  Mental Health (Adults, Adolescents, and Chldren)
  • Crisis Intervention:  Mental Health (Adults, Adolescents, and Children)
  • Network
  • Integrated Behavioral Health/ Primaty Care: Comprehensive Care (Adults)
  • Outpatient Treatment: Mental Health (Adults, Adolescents, and Children)

We are also held to the highest level of care by our overseeing organization, Mid-State Health Network (MSHN). Mid-State Health Network is comprised of 12 community mental health boards --including LifeWays-- that provides services to a 21-county area. MSHN also manages the substance use services for these counties.

As an organization who receives public funding and serves the most vulnerable people in our communities, it is our goal to keep our community informed of our current standings and operations. Our current Strategic PlanFY21 Quality Improvement Plan and financial statements will always be available to the public.

Our Communities

At LifeWays, we believe in being an active part of our communities. LifeWays has had the privilege of serving Jackson and Hillsdale counties for over 50 years and, because of that, we make it our priority to support what matters to our communities.

  • Walk Around the Park for Autism
  • Recovery Out Loud Walk
  • Molly's Glitter Run
  • Jackson's Juneteenth
  • Jackson and Hillsdale County Fair
  • Jackson Back to School Bash and Blast
  • Stomp Out Suicide 
  • Project Connect
  • and many more

Our staff's extracurricular committee, which we call PERKs, chooses a different charity to support through jean days and fundraisers - donating over $1,300 in 2020 to deserving local organizations.

Here is the breakdown from 2020:

1st Quarter:

  • $50 to Domestic Harmony
  • $50 to The Aware Shelter

2nd Quarter:

  • $50 to Molly’s Glitter Run
  • $50 to Henry Ford Hospice Sandcastle

3rd Quarter:

  • $200 Greater Hillsdale Humane Society
  • $200 Cascades Humane Society

4th Quarter:

  • $200 CPCAN
  • $200 CAPA

We also donated $300 to the Jackson County Suicide Prevention Coalition for Stomp Out Suicide.
