Mental Health Awareness Family-Friendly Event
Inspired by the story of Disney’s Inside Out and
SAMHSA’s Eight Dimensions of Wellness

We are reaching out to you because we would love to have your support in raising awareness for youth mental health in our community. Saturday, May 18th from 10 am to 2 pm, LifeWays Community Mental Health, Drug Free Jackson and Baker College of Jackson will be hosting a family-friendly event, called Islands of Wellness. This event, at the American 1 Event Center, is designed to help families learn how to manage stress and take care of their family’s mental health.

Challenges will be offered at each “Island” and will earn a stamp in a passport. Each island teaches one of the 8 Dimensions of Wellness developed by SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) including Emotional, Physical, Environmental, Intellectual, Financial, Occupational, Spiritual and Social. Resource Reef features community resources and Serenity Point features stress less activities such as pet therapy and massage therapy.

Studies show 1 in 5 individuals will experience a mental illness. This event helps to raise awareness of mental health in our community, fight stigma and share community resources for youth and families. “There’s a lot of stigma around mental illness”, says festival organizer Rebecca Calkins. “Yet mental health is just as important as physical health. We wanted to make that fun and understandable to the whole family.”

The theme of this year’s event was inspired by the film “Inside Out”. The characters Joy, Sadness, Fear, Anger, and Disgust will be on hand for pictures with the kids. Upon completion of all 8 islands, families will receive a gift and be entered for door prizes. Our fundraising goal for this event is $10,000 which will be used to support this year’s event, as well as future events and educational opportunities for youth mental health. This event would not exist without sponsors like you!

Your contribution to the event will be recognized in several ways. As a sponsor, your name will be placed on all materials and banners that publicize the event, as well as announced verbally at the event itself. You will also be given the opportunity to have a resource table at the event. Sponsorship levels are described on the following page. If you are unable to provide a sponsorship level, you can provide a door prize for the day. Any contributions are greatly appreciated.

We hope that we can count on you to help support this cause. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at the number or email below.
Thank you in advance for your consideration!
